Oil on Canvas - Spring 2022
I played with different variations of blending with this piece, creating softer and harsher effects with the paint.
Acrylic - Fall 2021
This piece was inspired by The Matrix (1999), reflecting the prominent colors from the movie, appearing as coding flashing across the plane of view. This was on display in the 2022 Student Exhibition at the University Art Gallery at Central Michigan University.
Watercolor - Spring 2021
This is a quick study I did of a bonsai, playing with the intricate forms and silhouettes they take.
Acrylic on Canvas - Spring 2021
This was a fun piece to work on, as I hadn't really done studies on animals before, and I had to work with fur textures and appearance.
Acrylic on Canvas - June 2021
I was inspired by portraits done by Kehinde Wiley, I love how he overlaps his floral wallpaper backgrounds on top of the subjects, breaking the separation between background and foreground. I chose to paint Princess Leia (the Star Wars franchise is another one of my favorites) using greyscale values to offer higher contrast between her and the background, however, still including that overlap as Wiley does.
Tempura on Canvas - Spring 2019
As an assignment for one of my high school art classes, I recreated this portrait originally by Johannes Vermeer in 1665. Instead of oil used for the original, I created this with tempura paint, which I found much more difficult to blend because it dries so quickly. This is something I had to get used to and work with to achieve likeness to Vermeer's work.
Watercolor - Spring 2019
A little study I did of a lighthouse on the beach of a lake.
